Dans Le Voile du Silence – Portretbord 1
Limited edition porcelain plate, hand-painted, gold leaf detail.
In this series, Véronique Noteboren explores the human drive for power and elevation. Royal figures serve as a starting point, stripped of their visible symbols of status. What remains is the human being itself: dignified, still, and simultaneously vulnerable.
Through subtle glances and restrained expressions, the portraits reveal an inner world only partially visible. Behind a composed exterior lies emotion — perceptible, but never explicit.
The works are painted on porcelain plates. Not new objects, but used carriers with a past. They were present on tables during visits to family and friends, at special occasions, and bear traces of use and time.
These plates now carry the portraits. A layered relationship emerges between object and image: the everyday meets the elevated, revealing how closely power and humanity are intertwined.
On the back of each plate is a hidden detail: a layer of gold leaf. Irregular and fragile — a quiet reminder of luxury that is never untouchable.
In Dans Le Voile du Silence, stillness and layering come together. The works hover between grace and vulnerability, inviting the viewer to slow down, observe, and recognize something of themselves.
